Heart-Shaped Boiled Eggs

Valentine's Day and Heart Healthy Month are upon us! These boiled eggs are so versatile and can be used as a fun appetizer for a Galentine's party, a thoughtful breakfast for a loved one, or a healthy snack for the kids. Special thanks to Anna The Red for the step-by-step how-to!

Ingredients/Materials

  • Braswell Family Farms eggs
  • Milk carton or juice carton (cut open, washed well and dried)
  • Chopstick, skewer or straw
  • Rubber bands

Directions

  1. Cut carton to about 3" x 8" and fold it in half lengthwise.

  • Make the boiled eggs.
  1. Place your eggs in a pot and cover with cold water by 1 inch.
  2. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, then cover, remove from the heat and set aside 8 to 10 minutes.
  3. Drain, cool in ice water and peel.
  4. Note: cook 4-5 minutes for soft boiled eggs and 7-8 minutes for medium boiled eggs.
  • After peeling the egg and while it is still warm, put the egg on the milk carton, place a chopstick on the center of the egg, and put rubber bands on both ends.

  • Leave it for about 10 minutes.
  • Take the chopstick off and cut the egg in half.

Decorative options:

  • Sprinkle paprika over the eggs for added flavor and decor.
  • Remove the yolks and soak the peeled eggs in beet juice for at least 12 hours, dying them a pink and purplish color.
  • Turn the heart-shaped eggs in deviled eggs with your favorite twist on the classic.
