Meet Larry Respess

Braswell Family Spotlight

Introducing Larry Respess, he serves as our security watch at our farm and processing facility. You may be asking, why does an egg farm and processing facility need a security watch? We’re glad you asked! It’s mostly for the health and safety of our birds.

There are many diseases that can be detrimental to the life of hens. By having a security watch at the entrance to our farm, we are able to record when someone entered the facility. This is important because should a disease outbreak ever happen, we are able to trace who visited our facility in that timespan to trace where the pathogen may have originated to help other farmers mitigate the spread of the disease. Larry also instructs each visitor the proper way to enter the facility, which requires each vehicle to be sanitized in our disinfect station before entering our farm.

In addition to monitoring who comes in and out of our facilities, Larry also checks our truck trailers to ensure that the temperatures are being maintained at the appropriate levels and checks the hen-houses for correct temperature and static pressure.

When asked what he likes most about his job, Larry responded that he appreciates the level of trust that Braswell has put in him. This allows him to have independence in making decisions, which is critical because Larry is usually working when most people are sleeping!

Like our past few spotlights, Larry is fairly new to the Braswell family. He started his job here two years ago. Larry began his career as a parol officer, working his way up to eventually train other officers. He received his undergraduate and graduate degree in Criminal Justice from East Carolina University.

In his free time, you can find Larry playing golf or helping with the video ministry at his church.

As for his Braswell Family Farms eggs, Larry likes his best in an omelet with white cheddar cheese, mushrooms, bacon, and spicy Bass Farm sausage.
